Welcome to El Toyon Elementary School!
I am excited to welcome you back to a new school year. As I begin my second year as principal of El Toyon, I want to say thank you for the warm welcome and support last year. It means a lot to me, and I am happy to keep building strong connections with parents, students, and the whole community.
At El Toyon, we believe that learning is not just about what happens in the classroom. It also includes the values and help from our parents and community members. Your partnership is very important in creating a fun and caring place for our students. We want to make sure everyone feels heard and respected.
This summer, we welcomed some new faces to our team. I am happy to introduce our new administrative assistant, Valeria Huynh, and our new school counselor, Rosa Lopez. We are excited to have them join us and look forward to the positive changes they will bring.
One of our main goals at El Toyon Elementary is helping our students grow. We focus a lot on social and emotional learning, teaching skills that help students deal with the world with kindness, strength, and confidence. We know that being successful in school is important, but we also want to help students develop emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and good social skills.
We want every student at El Toyon to shine. In the spirit of making our school shine, I'd like to share a quote from "The Power of Moments" by Chip and Dan Heath: "When we care, we show up." Let's make this year full of caring moments for our children, showing up for them in their successes and challenges alike.
At El Toyon, we focus a lot on Global Goal 12, which is all about responsible consumption and production. This means we will learn about how to use resources wisely and take care of our planet. Understanding Global Goal 12 helps students learn about the dangers of pollution and the importance of sustainability. By teaching our students these values, we prepare them to make environmentally conscious decisions that will benefit their future. Additionally, teaching students about responsible consumption fosters empathy, as they become more aware of how their actions impact others and the environment, encouraging them to care for both their local and global communities.
Attendance will continue to be a key focus for us this school year, as coming to school regularly is crucial for your child's success. We encourage you to help your child develop good attendance habits from the very start.
We pride ourselves on having an amazing PTA, and we encourage all of our families to join. Your involvement and support make a big difference in creating a strong and connected school community.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to inspire our students to shine brightly and achieve their goals. I am excited about starting this new school year with the El Toyon community and am committed to making it a great year for all of us. Together, we will help our students grow into curious, kind, and capable young people.
Thank you for trusting us with your children's education, and I look forward to a successful academic year ahead. Go Eagles!!
Sincerely,
Alfonso Denegri
